Japan’s booming massage industry is seeing a boom in popularity in the United States, as people seek out massage therapists who offer a better price and service than their Western counterparts.
But experts say the industry is struggling to survive amid a new wave of competition, especially among Asian massage therapists, who are finding it difficult to compete with Western massage therapists.
The boom in massage services has caused headaches for many Japanese massage therapists because they must offer a cheaper and more efficient service than Western therapists.
But, experts said, the new wave is also adding to the pressure on Japanese massage therapy to offer the best massage service available.
Massage therapist Yoshimi Umezu said many massage therapists are now having to raise their prices and cut back on the quality of their services.
“We are experiencing an unprecedented amount of competition,” said Umezyu, who heads the massage therapy program at Shizuku-ji Temple in Kyoto.
“When people want to buy our service, they must pay more than what they pay for our Western services.”
Massage therapists in Japan, the world’s largest market for massage, have been facing increasing competition in recent years.
The government, which is trying to promote the country’s traditional healing practices to attract more tourists, has been trying to reduce the number of licensed massage therapists and limit their business to small-time massage therapists like Umezzu.
In addition to lowering the price of massage, the government has also started restricting access to Western massage services to make sure they stay within the bounds of the government’s rules.
But Umezukas efforts to increase the quality and quantity of her service have been met with criticism from Western massage therapist Tomoaki Shimizu.
Shimizu said that many Japanese are choosing to practice Western massage because they feel like they have a better quality of life than Japanese massage therapist, but that there are many Japanese who want a good massage from a Japanese massage teacher.
“The massage therapists, the massage therapists from Japan are really happy with the quality that they have.
They are not satisfied with what they have in Japan,” Shimizu said.
Shimoizu said many Western massage instructors, like Umeszu, are doing their best to offer a quality service, but the quality is often lacking.
“In the U.S., we can have a good quality massage from the masseuse of a Western massage center, and it can be good,” Shimiz said.
But Shimizu also pointed out that there is also a lot of competition among massage therapists in the U, and that the quality varies a lot among them.
Shiizu said his own experience in the massage business has taught him that it is not just about the quality but the quantity of services offered.
“I have been doing massage for over 20 years, and I can tell you, the quantity and quality of the services are not the same in Japan as in the West,” Shimoshi said.
“We have a lot more experience and we know how to offer our service better.”
